What Are They?

Porcelain veneers and Lumineers are wafer-thin shells of material that we can apply to the front of your “smile zone” teeth to make your smile imperfections disappear. Porcelain is the ideal material for both because it has the durability and gloss of actual tooth enamel.

When he places your porcelain veneers or Lumineers, Dr. Orenstein pays special attention to the overall esthetics of your mouth, not just the treated teeth. The idea is not only for the veneers and Lumineers to make unsightly teeth look beautiful, but for them to complement the esthetics of your other teeth for a seamless smile.

Both options perform the same function, but there are differences in them. Veneers are thicker than Lumineers, so Dr. Orenstein has to remove some enamel from your teeth before placing them. Many people find veneers to be the more cost-effective choice. Lumineers are constructed of a thinner yet sturdier material which means no tooth enamel needs to be removed.

Dr. Orenstein can help you decide which option is better for you in a consultation. He can even begin your treatment during that very same visit!

Two Visits to a Spectacular Smile

Visit #1: Consultation and Preparation

During your first visit Dr. Orenstein will conduct a thorough dental exam and discuss your smile goals with you. Based on what he learns from the examination and discussion, he can begin preparing your teeth for the procedure. If you’ve chosen veneers, preparation includes trimming a small layer of enamel prior to making an impression of your teeth. Our trusted lab will use this to custom fabricate your new tooth surfaces. Dr. Orenstein will give you temporary veneers to reinforce any trimmed teeth until your final procedure. You won’t need temporaries for Lumineers.

Visit #2: Your Finished Smile

You’ll come back to our office within a few weeks for your final, customized veneer or Lumineer placement. During your visit, Dr. Orenstein will make sure they fit comfortably and match the esthetics of your full smile. Once you and he are happy with what you see, he’ll bond your porcelain veneers securely to your teeth. Your attractive new tooth surfaces will remain in place and give you reliable performance for many years. You’ll be able to eat, speak, and smile with complete comfort once again!
